Se han convertido en nuestras grandes aliadas para rellenar nuestro tiempo de ocio y nos mantienen en vilo a la espera de ese nuevo capítulo que nos mantiene intrigado.

Algunas narran historias sobre psicólogos y sus clientes, otras se centran en los trastornos mentales de sus personajes y muchas de ellas se basan en los contextos más sociales del comportamiento humano y como puede llegar a afectar a nuestras vidas. Otro de los géneros favoritos de las series psicológicas son las orientadas a la criminología y la psicología forense en busca del asesino y el porqué de sus crímenes.

30 series psicológicas que no deberías perderte.

Como gran consumidor de series he realizado un listado con 30 series psicológicas en la que la psicología, neurociencia o el estudio de la mente y el cerebro forman parte central de la trama. Algunas de ellas ya han sido analizadas en esta página web, por lo que recomiendo la lectura de sus artículos, otras de ellas las he visto enteras, otras estoy en proceso y algunas aunque no las haya visto todavía merecen estar en este listado.

No es un ranking ordenado de mejor a peor pero incorpora una valoración personal de aquellas que he visto y una valoración según IMDb para hacerse una idea del nivel de las series. Empezamos.

1. The Alienist.

Esta serie nos traslada a la Nueva York de finales del siglo XIX. En esta época a las personas que sufrían un trastorno mental se les decía que estaban alienadas de su propia naturaleza, por lo que a los expertos que las estudiaban los llamaban alienistas. Laszlo Kreizler (interpretado por Daniel Brühl) es el alienista que tratará de encontrar junto a su equipo al asesino en serie de niños y descubrir cuales son las motivaciones que lo han llevado a cometer tan horrendos crímenes. Son los inicios de la criminología y el estudio de la mente para resolver casos que las investigaciones policiales convencionales no llegaban a entender.

2. 13 Reasons Why.

Esta serie que ha estrenado recientemente la segunda temporada versa sobre los problemas que llevaron a una joven adolescente hasta el suicidio. 3. The End of the F *** ing World

Este serie es de las que se ve rápidamente ya que su primera temporada solo consta de 8 capítulos de 20 minutos de duración por lo que más que una serie podría convertirse en una película de larga duración fragmentada ya que en menos de 3 horas la puedes ver entera (que es lo que hice yo).

Narra la historia de James, un joven con tendencias psicópatas que trata de resolver sus necesidades mentales planeando como matar a una persona, hasta que conoce a Alyssa, una joven rebelde, con quizás algún trastorno de la personalidad relacionado con una infancia frustrada, que tratará de resolver con la ayuda de James. Éste a su vez su vez planea como matarla a ella, o no, mientras la trama se retuerce con un inesperado suceso con también alto contenido psicológico.

4. Westworld.

Esta serie de HBO cuenta la historia de un avanzado parque temático que recrea el viejo oeste habitado por los anfitriones, unos robots humanoides creados a imagen y semejanza de los humanos que reciben a los invitados al parque que van a él en busca de aventuras y cubrir necesidades que en la vida real sería imposible realizar.

Sin duda, ver como crean las personalidades de los robots es de gran interés para cualquier amante de la psicología. Además, analizar como los invitados al parque se comportan en un mundo irreal en el que pueden dar rienda suelta a los instintos más básicos cuestiona nuestro comportamiento humano y nuestras conductas en situaciones límites. Westworld ya está por su segunda temporada.

5. Mindhunter

Si os gustan las historias de asesinos en serie ésta es vuestra serie. Basada en hechos reales, se ambienta en los años 1970 dos agentes del FBI comienzan a construir perfiles psicólogicos de criminales en los inicios de la Unidad de Análisis de la Conducta del FBI. el agente Ford y el agente Tench entrevistarán a multitud de asesinos para intentar comprender qué es lo que les ha llevado a cometer sus crímenes.

6. Atypical.

Otra de las series que ya se han analizado ampliamente en esta web: ‘Atypical’: análisis de una serie sobre el trastorno de espectro autista (TEA). Narra la vida de un joven diagnosticado con Trastorno de Espectro Autista y como esa situación afecta a su familia y a sus relaciones interpersonales.

7. Sense 8.

¿Te imaginas que tu mente está entrelazada con las de otras personas y que puedes sentir lo mismo que ellas sienten? Pues bien, la serie va básicamente de eso. Clústers de personas que comparten emociones desde diversos lugares del mundo y que intenta conocer lo que les pasa a lo que parece un nuevo paso en la evolución humana, los homo sensorium.

8. Dexter.

Un clásico ya de las series que durante sus 8 temporadas contó las andanzas de un joven forense con personalidad psicópata asesina que aprende a lidiar su necesidad de sangre buscando víctimas que han cometido crimines u otros asesinos en series para “limpiar” la ciudad a la vez que alivia sus enferma necesidad de matar.

En la serie, a parte del problema de infancia de Dexter Morgan también existen diversas intrahistorias con conflictos de índole psicológica que hacen de Dexter una de las grande series de nuestra época reciente. Indispensable.

9. Black Mirror.

Cada capítulo de Black Mirror es independiente del anterior y a su vez los une una misma crítica social a los límites del comportamiento humano en universos futuros distópicos que ponen a nuestra sociedad en entre dicho. Cada capítulo es una obra que te hará acercará a mundos quizás no tan lejanos poniéndote en situaciones humanas diferentes que seguramente te hagan sentirte identificado. Necesaria.

10. Big Mouth.

Esta serie de animación es una verdadera demostración de cómo lidiar con la educación sexual en la adolescencia. También analizada ya extensamente en esta web en este otro articulo: ‘Big Mouth’, análisis de una serie sobre la revolución hormonal. 

En la serie se narran todo tipo de problemáticas adolescentes y temas tabú.

11. The Sinner.

Jessica Biel interpreta a Cora Tanneti una joven que un buen día sin más mediar apuñala a un extraño de forma inconsciente sin saberse el motivo ni la causa, como si estuviese condicionada por algo en su mente que ella misma desconoce. Durante la serie se desvelan los secretos violentos que la llevaron a cometer esa conducta. Una vez más el comportamiento humano es impredecible.

12. Masters of Sex.

Si eres estudiante de psicología o ya psicólogo te tiene que sonar el nombre de William Masters y de Virginia Johnson. Este ginecólogo y psicóloga fueron pioneros en el estudio de la conducta sexual humana a mediados de los años 60, lo cual supuso una revolución para la época debido a sus controvertidos métodos que buscaban explicar las etapas de la respuesta sexual humana: deseo, excitación, meseta, orgamos y resolución. Pues la serie va básicamente de eso y de las propias relaciones entre los personajes, todas ellas vinculadas a los estudios que realizan.

13. Dark.

Dark es un thriller psicológico alemán de ficción que mantiene al espectador en vilo durante toda la serie en busca de descubrir un secreto que castiga a un pueblo con misteriosas desapariciones que ponen el al límite las relaciones interpersonales entre las familias protagonistas en el presente, pasado y futuro. Durante la serie se expone a los protagonistas entre lo que supone el bien y el mal. Otra vez más el comportamiento humano puede ser bueno o malo en función del contexto y el verdadero significado del miedo en las personas. Podríamos decir que es una especie de Stranger Things a la europea.

14. Altered Carbon.

En el siglo XXV la tecnología ya permite traspasar la mente de las personas a otros cuerpos por lo que el concepto de muerte es relativo. ¿Cómo influye el cambio de estado físico a nuestra personalidad? ¿Podrá algún día conservase nuestra conciencia? Altered Carbon es una serie futurista en la que en base estos cambios de “funda” se produce una conspiración en la que si no estás atento a la serie no sabrás en qué momento es cada personaje, al variar el cuerpo pero no la personalidad.

15. House Of Cards.

El arte de la manipulación en todos sus vertientes: poder, medios de comunicación, relaciones personales, etc. Sin duda, House Of Cards es una de esas series que abarca un gran elenco de personalidades dignas de analizar. Toda una clase de psicología social a alta escala.

16. Gypsy.

Naomi Watts interpreta a la psicóloga Jean Holloway que se involucra en los casos de sus pacientes hasta límites insospechados con tal de resolver sus problemas.

17. House.

La mítica serie del Doctor House debe estar en este listado por la gran cantidad de contenido de perfil psicológico de la serie. Desde la complejidad de la personalidad del protagonista hasta los casos de los pacientes que en su gran mayoría tienen un componente mental o neurológico muy importante. Se trata directamente con pacientes con trastornos mentales graves e incluso los propios protagonistas los padecen (adicción, depresión, ansiedad, trastornos de la personalidad…).

Por ejemplo, en esta web hablamos ya sobre el Síndrome de Korsakoff, derivado del consumo excesivo de alcohol y que es tratado en uno de los capítulos de la serie.

18. Web Therapy.

La psicóloga Fiona Wallice realiza una novedosa terapia online de solo 3 minutos de duración mediante videoconferencia, convenida de que son suficientes para lograr un cambio en sus clientes en lugar de los tradicionales 50-60 minutos de sesión. Seria de corte humorístico protagonizada por Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe en Friends), que busca más la comedia que profundizar en la terapia, pero sin duda un buen ejemplo de que la psicología es una temática muy recurrida por los directores de series.

De hecho, en España se ha hecho recientemente una adaptación de nombre homónimo.

19. Breaking Bad.

Vamos a meter a esta serie top dentro este ranking de series sobre psicología por la complejidad de la personalidad de su protagonista, Walter White y de hasta donde pueden llegar los límites de la mente humana y la ambición, aunque sea con una buena finalidad. Creo que hay gente que se atreve a llamarle “Síndrome Breaking Bad” a aquellos comportamientos anormativos, antisociales o incluso antisociales que realicen las personas aunque sean con un fondo relativamente ético. Como es el caso de profesor White, que ante su enfermedad decida ganar dinero para poder ayudar a su familia antes de su muerte. Es una de las mejores series de la historia. Seas o no psicólogo tienes que verla.

20. Mentes criminales (Criminal Minds)

Otro clásico de las series policíacas que desde 2005 nos traen capítulos con tramas en los que un equipo del FBI estudia el perfil psicológico de los criminales. Cada uno de los agentes es un erudito en su especialidad y juntos consiguen entrar en la mente del criminal hasta dar con él.  Otra serie más en la que se relaciona directamente la psicología con la resolución de crímenes. Merece estar en la lista.

21. En Terapia (In Treatment).

Su título no engaña. Narra las consultas del psicoanalista Paul Weston el cual a su vez también acude a terapia. Porque los psicólogos también vamos al psicólogo.

22. Terapia de Choque (Necessary Roughness).

Turno para la psicología deportiva. La serie cuenta como una psicóloga ayuda a un equipo de fútbol americano a superar los problemas personales de sus jugadores convirtiéndose en una terapeuta muy solicitada, lo cual tiene que lidiar con su propia vida.

23. La Casa de Papel (Money Heist)

Esta serie española tiene como escenario un atraco con rehenes cometido por ocho ladrones en la la Casa de la Moneda de España. Una mente criminal que intenta manipular a la policía para conseguir sus objetivos. ¿Cómo se comportarán los rehenes ante esta situación límite?

24. Psi (Ps!)

Carlo Antonini es un psicólogo, psiquiatra y psiconanalista que trabaja en Sao Paulo en Brasil. Las historias de sus pacientes combinadas con sus trabajos investigando crímenes forman otra serie más en la que el protagonista es un psicólogo.

25. Hannibal

De nuevo hablamos de criminología. El agente del FBI Will Graham tiene una capacidad innata para empatizar con los psicópatas pero cuando los casos son demasiado complejos de entender recurre al psiquiatra Hannibal Lecter (¿os suena?) que a su vez también va al psiquiatra.

26. Perception

La percepción es uno de mis temas favoritos. Esta serie está protagonizada por el neuropsicólogo Dr. Daniel Pierce el cual tiene esquizofrenia paranoide y ayuda al FBI a resolver casos. Lo más interesante de la serie es que cada capítulo se inicia con una clase del profesor explicando conceptos de la mente y la percepción humana que se convierten en el hilo de todo el capítulo. Cuando se explican las cosas mejor.

27. Mental (Mentes en Shock)

Esta serie es sobre un departamento de salud mental americano en el que un joven psiquiatra tiene la capacidad para introducirse en la mente de sus pacientes por lo que experimenta sus sensaciones y las acompaña de tratamientos un tanto diferentes. En Colombia hicieron una versión de la serie llamada Mentes en Shock.

28. Gravity

Esta serie dudé en meterla en el listado ya que solo se han publicado 6 episodios antes de su cancelación. Cuenta las historias de un grupo de jóvenes suicidas en tratamiento.

29. The Last Man on Earth.

Para ir finalizando el listado, un poco de humor. ¿Te imaginas quedarte solo en el mundo? Nuestros hábitos y comportamientos se adaptan al contexto y a las relaciones interpersonales. ¿Qué pasaría si se pierden? La serie cuenta la vida del único superviviente a una masacre global, Phill Miller, que aprende a vivir en la más rotunda soledad hasta que comienza a encontrar nuevos supervivientes. Psicología no sé, pero risas seguro.

30. Frasier

Para terminar el listado que mejor que hacerlo con una serie clásica por excelencia, Frasier. Esta comedia de entre 1993 y 2004 y con once temporadas a sus espaldas es un clásico de las sitcom. Cuenta la vida del psiquiatra Dr. Frasier Crane y es un spin-off de la famosa serie Cheers en la que también salía este personaje.

Existen otras muchas series que podrían encajar, incluso españolas como ‘La Pecera de Eva’ que narra la vida de una psicóloga o ‘Matar al padre’, recientemente estrenada con perfiles psicológicos interesantes. En realidad, cualquier serie o película incorpora niveles de análisis psicológico porque el comportamiento humano lo es todo y en las series se narra la vida de las personas y como sus comportamientos desencadenan los acontecimientos.

El consumo de series de televisión se ha disparado en los últimos años gracias a expansión de las plataformas streaming como Netlix, HBO, Amazon o resto de cadenas de televisión que se han visto obligadas a adaptar sus producciones al nuevo tipo de espectador. Las series de televisión ya no solo se ven en la tele a una hora determina sino en cualquier dispositivo y a cualquier hora, cómo y cuando te apetezca, y además a precios asequibles.

As big consumer of series have made a listing with 30 psychological series in which the psychology, neuroscience or the study of the mind and the brain form central part of the plot. Some of them already have been analysed in this web page, by what recommend the reading of his articles, others of them have seen them whole, others am in process and some although it have not seen them still deserve to be in this listing.

It is not a ranking orderly of better to worse but incorporates a personal assessment of those that have seen and an assessment according to IMDb to do  an idea of the level of the series. We begin.

Definitely, see as they create the personalities of the robots is of big interest for any lover of the psychology. Besides, analyse like the invited to the park comport  in an unreal world in which they can give loose rein to the most basic instincts questions our human behaviour and our behaviours in situations limits. 5. Mindhunter

If they like you the histories of murderers in series this is your series.
